Solving Inequalities - Two Variable & Quadratic

Inequalities are equations where the values are not equal. It uses the symbols not equal to (≠), greater than (>), greater than or equal to (≥), less than(<) or less than or equal to (≤).

In calculations, units must be consistent, so if the units in the question are not all the same (e.g. m/s, m and s or km/h, km and h), change the units before starting, as above.

Graphs

Equations of straight lines are in the form y = mx + c (m and c are numbers). m is the gradient of the line and c is the y-intercept (where the graph crosses the y-axis).

Gradients

It is often useful or necessary to find out what the gradient of a graph is. For a straight-line graph, pick two points on the graph. The gradient of the line = (change in y-coordinate)/(change in x-coordinate) .

Inequalities

If you have an inequality, you can add or subtract numbers from each side of the inequality, as with an equation. You can also multiply or divide by a constant. 

Flow Charts

Flow charts are a diagrammatic representation of a set of instructions which must be followed. Flow charts are made up of different boxes, which each have different functions.

Algebraic Fractions

When adding or subtracting algebraic fractions, the first thing to do is to put them onto a common denominator (by cross multiplying).
