## Numbers

Surds

Surds are an expression in root form such as square root, cube root and other in a root symbol.  A surd cannot be simplified to remove the root symbol. It does not have an exact decimal value and cannot be represented by a fraction.

Proportions

Proportion is represented by two equal ratios. There is direct and indirect proportion. With direct proportion, the two variables change at the same rate.

Positive and Negative Numbers

The sign of a number can be a positive or a negative number, and zero is the midpoint of the number line. From zero, all numbers going to the right side are positive numbers.

Decimal Numbers

Decimal numbers are any usual fraction, which can be written as a fraction with the number 10^n (n∈N) in the denominator.

Fractions

Ordinary fractions are used for counting the parts of a subject. For example, the amount of juice in the glasses can be described by fractions.

Numbers - Types & Definition

Numbers are words, symbols or figures used in counting and making calculations. A number represents a particular quantity and indicates an order or sequence. It can be a sign number, fraction, surd and decimal.

Number Sequences – Arithmetic, Geometric and Fibonacci

The number sequence is a set of numbers that show a series of a pattern. The term is the number in the sequence. There is a certain rule that a number follows, for example, 4, 8, 12 and this sequence shows that number 4 is added in each term.

Definition of Percent

Percent is some part of something, expressed in numbers. Percent is denoted by the symbol %. Percent is used to show a part of something in the general quantity.

Variation (Proportion & Inverse Proportion)

If a is proportional to b, a µ b and a = kb, where k is a constant. The value of k will be the same for all values of a and b.

Standard Form

Standard form is a way of writing down very large or very small numbers easily. 10³ = 1000, so 4 × 10³ = 4000 . So 4000 can be written as 4 × 10³.
